The primary objective of “Outdoor Odyssey, Bits and Pieces from Jon Bryan” is to provide enjoyment to the reader. A secondary objective is to better define sportsmanship and conservation in the outdoors. After reading these stories, if one fisherman returns a trophy fish to the water, or if one hunter passes on a shot that could only wound an animal, my objective will be achieved!

From time to time I will post something that maybe is not involved with hunting or fishing. Items, such as, my family history or current events, things that interest me and things that I believe will interest and provide enjoyment to the reader.

Being blessed with an excellent memory, I have written my stories using real places, trying not to embellish the events, but, where necessary, using a bit of literary license. Other than my immediate family members and some close relatives, names have been changed to protect the innocent.

These stories span over a half a century and there have been so many changes in our everyday life. I think the reader will enjoy reflecting back with me to a time when there were no cell phones, gasoline was $.15 per gallon, no Igloo coolers, no personal computers, no color TV, no internet and on and on. I touch on our government’s meddling in our everyday life and a little of my business career, but primarily all of this is about some thrilling, chilling and sometimes crazy adventures I have been involved in.

I have enjoyably hunted and fished for well over sixty years and have tried to pass on to my sons and daughters, now to my grandchildren and now to you the reader, that it is not the shooting or killing, but the chance to be out of doors and enjoy all of the creatures that God has placed on our planet.

Jon Bryan
Bryan Ranch
Goldthwaite, Texas
